New import computer system:
Customs Agency announces big news
September 8th was an important day: the Customs Agency introduced a new computer system for clearing goods through customs. Aida 2.0 has arrived. Let’s find out together all the new features for Italian import-export as well.
Aida 2.0 has arrived
Last June 2022, the Customs Agency introduced Aida, the new software to simplify the customs clearance of goods. Insiders noticed blockages and malfunctions. In the months since, the situation seems to have improved, but the old software still seems to be preferred over the new one, especially by specialists. The new Aida, however, is a needed change: from 2023 a new customs code will be mandatory throughout the European Union, and Italy has only anticipated an irreversible change by a few months.
Between June and August 2022 Aida handled more than 6 million customs declarations totaling as many as 11 million items.
Coming for export as well
The change with the new Aida 2.0 software will also take place for export.
The program will be divided into three different phases:
- Phase 1: By December 2022, the testing phase of the software will continue
- Phase 2: Between January and February 2023 those who want to, will be able to start using the new software for export.
- Phase 3: from March 2023 everyone will have to adapt to the new computer system.
